Osmania Biscuits

All purpose flour/maida, sifted 200 gms
Salted butter 120 gms
Icing sugar, sifted 80 gms
Baking powder 1/4 tsp
Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
Custard powder 2 tsp
Milk powder 10 gms
Milk 20 ml
Saffron, soaked in 1/4 cup of milk a pinch


1. Take a bowl and put the sifted four and add custard powder, milk powder,cardamom powder and baking powder through a strainer.
2. With a wire whisk mix all the ingredient and keep aside.
3. Take a bowl and put the butter in it. Run the mixer for few seconds and then add the icing sugar. Beat for a minute.
4. Add milk. Beat again for few seconds or till the milk is completely mixed with the sugar butter mix.
5. Add the flour to mixer and run the blender till you do not see any white of the flour in the dough.
6. Remove the blade. Gather the dough into a ball.
7. Cover with a cling film and keep in the fridge with the bowl for 30 minutes for the dough to firm up.
8. Preheat oven to 350 F or 180 degree C.
9. Line butter paper on your baking trays.
10. Sprinkle little flour on the counter and put the dough ball in the center.
11.Spread the same cling film on the dough and with a rolling pin,role the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
12.Remove the cling film and dip the edge of the cutter in plain flour and make round cuts.
13.Place the biscuits on the tray leaving an inch space between two biscuits.
14.Brush the biscuits with saffron milk.
15.Bake the biscuits for 15 minutes in the oven. The biscuits will be brown at the edge and bottom.
16.Leave it to cool on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from butter paper and leave it to cool on wire rack.
17.Keep in air tight container at room temperature.
